During the summer of 2018, we first met Rita, a retired practice nurse. As an all-female team, we took particular interest in discovering the amazing work our new client was carrying out for women less fortunate than ourselves. Rita is a direct trustee for Friends of Kagando, Uganda. In particular, Rita set up an arm of the charity in 2012, Rwenzori Women for Health.

This Christmas we are delighted to be supporting Rwenzori Women For Health.

‘’On the day of our move I received a call from Lucie Wishart. She was kindly enquiring if things were running smoothly; however, what she said next took me completely by surprise: it transpired that Wishart Estate Agency had chosen to support as its Christmas charitable cause, Rwenzori Women For Health.

This is an Outreach project which I started in 2012 addressing the health needs of the community living in the Rwenzori Mountains of Uganda, with emphasis on women’s health care. However as the culture is of a very patriarchal society, we have to gain the trust of the men and incorporate their health needs with those of the women. Over the years this Outreach programme has expanded to include other initiatives, which range from teaching women to make re-usable menstrual pads, to nutrition demonstration classes for mums whose children have been admitted to Kagando Hospital (where i’m based) suffering from malnutrition, and/or HIV, as well as supporting the cervical cancer prevention campaign in the district. Words cannot fully express my gratitude for this generous donation.’’  Rita
