Our fabulous work experience student Tilly has impressed us this week by creating this amazing blog post, What To Expect On Moving Day. Obviously very new to the industry, Tilly researched all her information online first, then she collated it into this really useful, advice guide.
Moving day is the day of completely transferring all your belongings to your new home, however, the day you move a lot more happens. Moving is a well-known stress, we know first-hand that it’s never completely smooth sailing. To make the experience as easy as we can, we have a few tips to help you along the way:
- Start packing early, at your own pace and to your own schedule to reduce stress. Starting early has more benefits than one, it also gives you time to pack carefully. We understand there are essentials that need packing last, but if you can avoid carless packaging of glass and quick folding of clothes, you’ll have a lot less to worry about when unpacking later on.
- Pack your essentials in one box, loo roll is crucial. Scissors, snacks and cleaning supplies will also ease moving day. Your favourite mug and bedding can make your new house feel like home that bit quicker.
- Label your boxes, this takes a minimal effort and can making moving a whole lot easier, boring but can truly be a saviour.
- Give your house a thorough clean. It's usually a good idea to have the property cleaned by professionals if you know you won have time to do it yourself.
- Carry out a last check around for any items that could have been left out of packaging.
- Make sure to take some final electricity, gas, and water meter readings, so you only pay for the utilities you've used.
- Don’t forget to drop of your old house keys to your estate agent ready for the new owners.
